We try to make most of our meals ourselves.  We do have the occasional night out, but for the most part we try to eat at home.  It’s cheaper and it’s healthier.  We stock up on the items we use the most at Costco and Sam’s.  We plan the menu a week ahead of time.  And for the most part things work out.

But then there are “those” days.  You know the ones I mean.  Sometimes it’s a hard day at work.  Maybe a meeting runs long.  Maybe the bathtub is clogged and you have to spend all afternoon trying to unclog it.  (This is actually the day The Man of the House is having today.)  Anyway, for whatever reason, you are left we no desire to cook at all.

When I was a single gal I had a nice bowl of cereal on nights like that.  TMOTH informs me that while real men DO eat quiche they do NOT eat cereal for dinner.  So whenever cooking wasn’t in the cards we’d taken to going out to Subway.  While that’s fine it’s not something that fits in with our goal of trying to be more self-sufficient.

So we have a new plan.  We call it “The Emergency Corn Dog Plan”.    Last Saturday we made a batch of homemade corn dogs and stuck them in the freezer.   The plan was that the next time we have one of those days that we’d just pop our corn dogs in the oven.

Because of the bathtub drain incident we put our plan into action tonight.  And it worked!  The corn dogs did well during the freezing and cooking process.  They were very tasty and we were more self-sufficient.  Let’s hear it for the corn dogs!
